Some would argue that when it comes to reading a book, there is nothing quite like turning the pages of one with ink on paper. Sure nothing looks as pleasing as shelves lined with rows and rows of rigid books with goldfoiled titles scrolled down their spines. However, it is pretty great having an entire library in the palm of your hand. But making sure the art of a book-bound-book is not lost in a deep sea of Kindles and iPads is a handmade book bound case with a cute name – DODOcase preserves traditional bookbinding techniques with a simple philosophy that keeps the centuries old craft alive and well by adapting bookbinding to fit modern electronic devices. The DODOcase has solid bamboo construction, a foldback-to-stand function and magnetic wake/sleep activation that keeps your fiction safe while maintaining the integrity of a hard-bound book, starting at $59.95 for iPad, also available for Kindle Fire

The tree is up, stockings are hung, lights are on shrubs and little holiday tchotchkes are out on tabletops. It’s fun bringing down big boxes marked “Xmas” from the attic and opening them up like a scrapbook filled with stories. But there is always room for new decorations and traditions too. Make something together but most importantly make some memories.

In a few short weeks, the holidays will be wrecking havoc on our waistlines for quite some time before we make that New Year's Resolution. So why wait? Cleanse now, indulge later (because no one wants a party pooper at the holidays and being the low-carb option at the table is a bit of a downer...)...and then detox as needed.

Why is it that skinny people love diets? (And by skinny I mean can afford to lose a pound or gain five and look fantastic either way.) Taking part in the irony myself, the thrill of starting a great diet is hard to resist and kind of fun when there is no pressure. Cabbage soup, grapefruit, South Beach and the Skinny Bitch, which hooked me with the title, had me at water and lost me with an intense rant about coffee. I realized that I wasn’t ready for this diet, but I got the gist of it and kept it in mind for a rainy day. When I stumbled upon the Skinny Bitch blog, Healthy Bitch Daily, it was no surprise to find the latest detox – Kaeng Raeng, an all natural cleanse. Now a cleanse, this is something I can do.

“Feeling fatigued, bloated or just plain gross?”

No? Well, in a few shorts weeks it will be Halloween (armed with a candy ration far greater than the amount handed out, then Thanksgiving (feast!) and then Christmas (cookies!). Which means that the holidays will be wrecking havoc on our waistlines for quite some time before that New Year’s Resolution can be put into place. So why wait? Cleanse now, indulge later (because no one wants a party pooper at the holidays and being the low-carb option at the table is a bit of a downer…)…and then detox as needed.

The Kaeng Raeng cleanse flushes out toxins naturally with fibers and water. Although there is no such thing as a “quick fix,” a cleanse is pretty darn close in my opinion. It is straightforward (drink!), makes you feel better from the inside out and doesn’t require a steady long term commitment or drastic lifestyle change. It holds true to my belief that if you feel good, you look good and you do good things (which makes you look even better).

The program has three levels and two timelines so you do the one that is right for you. Of course, every body is different and sometimes a cleanse can be too extreme. Find out if it’s okay for you but do not use if you’re diabetic, allergic, pregnant (or planning), breastfeeding or under the age of 15.

Gardening might not be great fun, but it is great therapy. Just think of all those pesky weeds as all the nagging things in your life (especially those small ones that know how to sprout up just enough for you to notice but are impossible to remove). Don’t stand for it – grab a spade, yank em out and toss them in the trash!
