caramel & chai

September 27th, 2011

Last fall, I could not get enough of Caramel Apple Spiced Ciders from Starbucks. An ex-barista shared the not-so-secret recipe for a caramel apple spice:

Add about 12 oz of Tree Top Apple Juice and 3 pumps of Cinnamon Dolce Syrup (about 5-6 tablespoons). Heat it up in the microwave or on the stove – I prefer the stove so it fills the kitchen with the sweet aroma of apples. Top with the whipped cream and a swirl of caramel sauce!

This season, it’s Chai Lattes from a little french bakery called Amelie’s – like autumn in a paper cup. Warm and spicy and by far better than Bux chais which, as a perpetual Starbucks enthusiast, I’m sorry to say are a bit watery and diluted (And who wants to dilute the preseason festivities of the most wonderful time of the year??). Since we all can’t be lucky enough to have an Amelie’s around the corner, I found that the national neighborhood Panera Cafe makes a richer, creamier chai latte that is able to lift the seasonal spirits.

Of course, keeping your holiday spirit up can be a pricey addiction. So save your paper cup for a special treat and make a chai mix at home!
