Ana White

July 28th, 2011

If housewives were carpenters, we’d be Ana White – she puts the “maker” in homemaker! Have you ever looked at a piece of furniture and thought, “I could make that!” and then flipped over the price tag and with wide eyes gasped, “I could make 10 of those!” (i.e., anything distressed, reclaimed, or seen in Restoration Hardware). Well, Ana White makes it possible to DIY with her simple plans which she so kindly shares with us for free.

The farmhouse table is just one of many projects that showcases Ana’s do-it-yourself design, versus the retail concept, in a favorable light.

On the left, the Farmhouse Salvaged Wood Dining Table from Restoration Hardware. This table is made of unfinished, solid reclaimed pine timbers from 100 year old buildings in Great Britain with distinctive nicks and imperfections.

Price of Restoration Hardware table: $2595, Time: 1-2 weeks for delivery

On the right, a replica using Ana White’s farmhouse table building plan. Made of yellow pine and fir wood that was distressed using random things found in the garage.

Estimated cost of DIY table: $150, Time: 20 hours

Time and aside, building a dining room table will build family memories.
