dressy casual vs casual dressy

February 28th, 2011

Attire isn’t all or nothing. But if it’s not entirely formal, and not completely casual, then what is it? It can be Dressy Casual or Casual Dressy. And yes, there is a major difference.

Dressy Casual

Start with your dressy foundation – a two- or three-piece suit; a classic blazer, collared shirt, and tie combination – and then take some air out of it. Lose the tie for an open-neck look or add a scarf. Ditch your lace-ups and try loafers. It’s about bringing formal clothing down to earth.

Casual Dressy

Start with your casual foundation – shorts or rumpled chinos, a polo shirt, some sneakers – and dress it up a little bit. Slip on a blazer or even a vest over a button-down. Take off the sneakers and try some suede bucks. It’s about elevating weekend standards to a higher plane.

Sophie la Giraffe

Nestlette Recommends:

Sophie la Giraffe

Here’s something to chew on. Sophie the Giraffe is designed to stimulate the senses (she makes a happy sound when squeezed) and soothe teething gums (safe for babies’ mouths). A French classic for your drooling bundle of joie.
