Who: Candy corn was created over a century ago by George Renninger who worked for the Wonderlee Candy Company. Today, candy corn is made by The Jelly Belly Candy Company (or you!).
What: Don’t be tricked by your treats. A candy corn is made of sugar, corn syrup and marshmallow* but these candies have less sugar than raisins.
If you are counting calories (seriously? counting calories during the holidays??), 30 kernels is equivalent to 3 mini* chocolate bars or 6 Tootsie Rolls.
When: All Hallows Eve-Eve is National Candy Corn Day!

* marshmallow is made of gelatin and I was once told by a vegan parent that gelatin is the “hidden meat” after their vegan child consumed a rice krispie treat and lived. Lesson learned: Don’t feed candy corn to the vegans unless it’s meat & marshmallow free.
*interpretations of “mini” may vary.
