A cardboard high chair

March 9th, 2010

Yes, a cardboard high chair. It may look like a broken down box that you see in the back of a stock room but I assure you, it is a fully functional, ultra portable place for the eco-chic baby to dine. It is the Belkiz Feedaway Cardboard High Chair.

At first, I thought, “When would you use this?” I mean, would you set up shop at a restaurant? Going out to eat is hard enough with a baby – there are bags, blankets, toys, car seats and never enough room (the high chair, no matter what material it is made from, is never in a good spot at the end of the table). Even if this is super quick and easy to put together, wouldn’t it just be easier to borrow a chair from the restaurant and wipe it down with an green sanitizer? But, then I thought of a time when this would come in handy – when you visit the homes of friends or family who don’t have babies (and therefore do not have high chairs, or cribs, or furniture arranged for crawling). So is it safe? The Feedaway is made from recycled Visy cardboard, is non-toxic and claims to be strong and sturdy enough for up to 40 pounds of toddler with a 3 point safety harness (which also keeps the pack together when folded).
