Ore-no’s

February 22nd, 2010

My boyfriend and I were at the grocery store and he was about to toss a bag of Oreo’s in the cart and I said, “No, I will make you something better!” I made him chocolate crinkles which are chocolate and white making them look like an Oreo (without the twist – but let’s be realistic, we twist to free the chocolate biscuit from the creamy filling because we enjoy one more than the other) but taste homemade and you can’t get that from a store bought cookie!

Chocolate Crinkles

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 oz unsweetened baking chocolate, melted, cooled
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for rolling dough

In large bowl, mix oil, melted chocolate and granulated sugar. Add eggs – one at a time. Add vanilla and dry ingredients (except powdered sugar). Chill overnight.

Preheat oven to 350. Roll into small balls the size of walnuts (it helps to have batter well chilled and put a little butter or margarine in the palms of your hands while making the balls). Roll each ball in powdered sugar. Place on cookie sheet. Bake for 10 -12 minutes (until centers aren’t jiggly). Be careful not to over cook (better gooey than dry). Immediately remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks.
