Holiday pressie: Digital camcorder
Why do you need a digital camcorder when you just spent all that money on a hi tech camera? Because. A) There will always be a wannabe Leibovitz in the room. But B) Some moments just can’t be captured in a snap. And some people just can’t capture a moment that quickly. The Flip Mino HD is perfect for the wannabe Capras.
$200 for 60 minutes; $300 for 120 minutes.
Why splurge on HD? Because that is where our beloved technological gadgets are headed. Remember, you will never be able to keep up with technology. It never fails – you wait and wait and finally convince yourself to go out and buy that new electronic then, a week later, there is the release of something better. This scenario is inevitable, even for the Flip – but aside from aesthetic changes and functionality, when given the option of HD, take it. And remember, just like a photo, catching an unforgettable moment on video is opportunity that you can’t redo (unless you are on a reality tv show).
Think of it like this – isn’t the point of taking a video to relive a particular moment in the future? So, in 20 years, do you really want to relive a game winning goal that is blurry or a family vacation that is shakier than a whale watch and then, explain to your child that the reason they can’t recognize themselves in that monumental moment is because you didn’t want to spend an extra $50 – which, over the course of 20 years, works out to be $2.50 a year. Give up an annual latte at Starbucks (which is twice as much) and you can cut that expense in half. Have I made my point?
